ABOUT THE JAY SHARRERS OFFICIATING SCHOOL
The Jay Sharrers Officiating School is a 3-day ice hockey officiating camp featuring classroom curriculum, on-ice instructions, and live-game evaluations. The school is open to grassroots officials (ages 14+) in the host state, neighboring states, and from other parts of North America. The purposes of the school include:
(1) Improve the on-ice and off-ice abilities of grassroots officials through an atmosphere of coaching, learning, cooperation, fellowship, and fun.
(2) Raise awareness of and funding for a new scholarship fund within the Bill McKenna Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Funds raised from this school will be available exclusively to applicants who participate in the school.
(3) To increase the retention of hockey officials by rewarding dedicated members of the officiating community with financial assistance for their post-secondary education.
In addition to retired NHL Official Jay Sharrers, camp instructors will consist of top minor pro, collegiate, junior, and amateur officials.
Jay Sharrers, Director; Andy Hudson, Coordinator; Kelly Colyer, Assistant Coordinator; Kris Schoech, Assistant Coordinator; Rob Coggin, Assistant Coordinator.
A variety of guest instructors are scheduled to present including retired NHL referees Dave Jackson & Brad Watson, current NHL referee Tom Chmielewski, NCHC Referee Dan Dreger, 2022 Winter Olympics Linesperson Jackie Spresser, NAHL Manager of Officiating Kendall Handley, and others.
